Birth Support

If a doula were a drug, it would be unethical not to use it.
— John H. Kennel MD

As women's wellness advocates, we believe in empowering women throughout the birth process. This includes during birth preparation, labor, delivery and post-partum.

What is a doula?

As defined by DONA International, a birth doula is a trained and experienced professional who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to the mother before, during, and after birth.

Why hire a doula?

Numerous clinical studies have shown that a doula's presence at birth:

  • Tends to result in shorter labors with fewer complications
  • Reduces negative feelings about one's childbirth experience
  • Reduces the need for Pitocin (a labor-inducing drug), forceps or vacuum extraction, and cesarians
  • Reduces the mother's request for pain medication and/or epidurals

Research shows parents who receive support can:

  • Feel more secure and cared for
  • Are more successful in adapting to new family dynamics
  • Have greater success with breastfeeding
  • Have greater self-confidence
  • Have less post-partum depression

Why should I hire Bloom for my birth?

A physical therapist is a medical expert in musculoskeletal anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology. This provides a unique perspective to the progression of labor and birth with respect to various musculoskeletal considerations. Whether birthing vaginally or via cesarean delivery, a physical therapist is the expert in preparation, progression, and recovery from birth.

Grace is amazing!!! Words cannot describe how thankful I was to have her by my side during my delivery. She was such a integral part of my c section as she was able to help keep me calm and comfort me throughout and after my delivery. Coming out of the delivery room was a scary process. I was unable to feel anything neck down, my head and neck were hurting, and I was shivering constantly. My husband being a first time father was naturally taking care of the baby. I was lucky enough to have Grace take care of me. She was able help me relax and soothe me after my delivery. Looking back I don’t know what I would have done without her those first few hours after I delivered. I will definitely be using her for my next scheduled c section.
